| How to Chose the Right Products |
| Choosing the right hammer depends on the drilling machine (mainly the output power of the compressor), the size of the hole and the type of rock formation. Ideally, the size of the hammer should be as close as possible to the required hole size, and there should be enough space for compressed air to flush debris and clean the holes. |
| The best hole diameter range for blast hole drilling using DTH method is 90～254 mm (3-1 / 2"～10") with 3.5～8" hammer. Smaller blast holes are usually drilled with top hammer tools. Rotary drilling tools are usually used for larger holes. In other applications, such as basic drilling, DTH hammers can be used for holes up to 1,000 mm (39-3/8"). |
| Generally, the smallest hole diameter that a DTH hammer can drill is its nominal size. For example, a 4-inch hammer can drill a 4-inch (100/102 mm) hole. The limiting factor is the outer diameter of the hammer, because as the hole diameter decreases, the airflow is restricted. The maximum hole size for production drills is the nominal hammer size plus 1" for 5" and smaller hammers, plus 2 for 6" and larger hammers, for example, for a 4" hammer, the maximum hole size is 5" (127/130mm) For an 8-inch hammer, the maximum hole size is 10 inches (254 mm). |
